Get Involved

International Mad Studies Journal is aspirationally international. We started out organising to get this journal started, as a small group mostly in Australia, a settler colonial state in the Global Periphery that tends to orient itself towards the Global North / Metropole. We understand that Mad Studies has been taken up all over the world – we sincerely want to engage meaningfully with the multiplicity of thought and voices in the Mad Studies project and we welcome contributions from people from all over the world.

We invite you to spread the word far and wide – please share within your networks or with anyone you think would be interested. If you are drawn to the idea of an International Mad Studies Journal, then we believe you are already part of this community and it’s just about figuring out together how to make this work, in line with Mad thinking about what a journal can be!

To get a better understanding about who you are and how you’d like to be involved, we’ve got a few questions. Or if you’d prefer to drop us a line instead, you can email us at: madstudiesjournal@gmail.com

  1. How would you like to be involved?

We welcome all people who are interested in furthering Mad Studies, the values of the journal and all skill sets, but some skills the IMSJ could benefit from right now are: specific skills in website accessibility, supporting authors in developing their written submissions/mentoring aspiring writers, design skills, social media and communications. If you’re savvy with any of this and keen to contribute the skill, we’re keen to have you go for it!
  1. What level of involvement would you like to have?

We are entirely volunteer-based and all of our capacity fluctuates, especially during COVID-19 times – so there’s no shame or judgement in this, this question is just to get an understanding.
  2. What time zone are you in – and would you like to attend regular meetings via Zoom?

While we are mostly based across several close time zones for now, we hope to soon set up plans for meetings to be more accessible for those in other time zones.
  3. Would you like to be a part of the editorial board?

We have established an editorial structure to get the journal started, however there are going to be opportunities to do this work in the future. We will announce via social media and our website when we will advertise EOIs on this page.
  4. Anything else you’d like to add or let us know about?
